I think they'd be a good size upgrade from what you have now and you can't beat the price. As long as you have a good charger for them then you're golden.

You would have to look at your current amp hours and compare to the amp hours of whatever replacement you are considering. There really isn't any way to "eyeball"

Here are the batteries I have....

http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-Maxx-Group-Size-29-Marine-Battery/20531539 - it looks like 125 amp hours

http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay...gId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1 - and the only info I can find at this is it has 200 minutes @ 23amps and 175 @ 25 amps.

The Intimidator batteries are rated at 200 minutes @ 25 amps. The Intimidator batteries also appear to be Commercial not Marine battery and are stated to be for Starting and Heavy Cycling not "Deep Cycling". Is that something to be worried about since I will only use it for heavy stereo use?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't buy used batteries just to save a few bucks. Your stereo bank should be of similar size and type. I would just add more batteries of the same size and brand to give you those extra hours.

Remember when buying batteries (new or used) that batteries age and decay beginning at the time of manufacture. Always check the manufacture date, even if buying new. You don't want old stock.

I agree with the comment on used batteries, too. You don't know where they have been. They could be run ragged, electrolyte spilled, replaced with water--practically anything. You would never know until you got them and started using them and realized they were not performing. By then, your seller is long gone...

So I bought the batteries, the date scratched off of them was February 2015 indicating that's when they were purchased. The guy I bought them from said he used them and hooked them up in series to operate a 24v winch on his jeep. He ended up selling the Jeep and keeping everything that he installed on it. He brought a battery tester with him, and the batteries showed 12.8 volts. These batteries are AGM and don't have any liquid in them from what I understand so they should hold up better than flooded acid batteries. I am going to install them on Friday night and let them charge via my Minn Kota on-board charger prior to using them all afternoon Saturday. We will see how it goes.

Good deal! I have never said one should not take risks, just that one should understand what the risks are. Sounds like you got yourself a winner there. AGM's are nice. Some day, when I grow up, I'm gonna get me some.

Enjoy!

Check them after they're charged. A proper functioning fully charged 12 volt battery at full capacity should give you 14.2 to 14.4 volts. At rest after charging they should read 13.2-13.4V. Some quick division after they're charged will give you what state they're left in, i.e 85%, 75%
