So I installed my GX1700 over the weekend and as I was reading through the installation manual I had some questions about the GPS functionality. First off, the GPS picks up the signal well from where I mounted it (under the console) however I'm not sure if it will ever experience signal interruption from that location.
My first question is has anybody mounted their GX1700 that low in the boat and if so were there any issues with losing satellite connectivity.
My second question is more technical about connecting it to the GPS on my chart plotter that is mounted much higher in the boat. The manual states "The NMEA input (+) (blue) and NMEA input (-) (green) wires may be connected to the NMEA output connections of an external GPS antenna or a GPS chart plotter." So I'm not as comfortable with this piece of it but on my Garmin 53dv I have two NMEA wires not being used ("Tx" Blue Rx/A (+) and "Rx" Brown Tx/A (+)) but not sure if I can connect them to the GX1700 input leads and make it read the GPS off of my CP. This is not my area of expertise in case you can't tell.
