Once again it is time for us to move, we are moving to Enid, OK around August of this year.
We have been in Italy for 2 years, I miss the boat!
I’m excited to get back to the states and be fairly close to family, I’m from AR and my brother lives just across the border in North Texas close to Texoma.

I see a few people on the member map that live in Enid, I was wondering what the closest nice lake would be to Enid. I see several on the map within 1.5-2 hour drive but I don’t know much about the lakes around there.

I am guessing you are going to the Air base in Enid. August it will be HOT and Humid! Be prepared.

Sooner lake

is probably the closest. I have not been on it. I have heard its a nice lake that is not busy at all.

Foss Lake
Its in the Clinton, OK area. I have never been there and its a very large lake (reservoir)
Keystone Lake
Keystone is roughly (Mannford)1.5 hours from Enid. Its a larger lake with a lot of Marinas. Its a fun lake that has deep channels and shallow area just off the channels. It has the Arkansas river as a tributary and is the main channel. You can have homes with docks (non corps lake)
good fishing lake there are a lot of spoonbill, stripers, hybrids, cat fish
Water clarity - murky mud bottom

Skiatook Lake
100 miles from Enid
I grew up on this lake and it is a gorgeous Lake. Its a corps lake so no lakeside homes or docks. There are an abundance of ramps and the best one for you is Black dog park. Twin points is closer but you will be in the tributary system and end up going to Black Dog. From Black dog simply go east and then under the hwy 20 bridge. Once out of the no wake zone there is a Large Island in front of you. On the West side of the Island there is usually 50 to 100 boats floating and partying. On the East side there is a cove that is protected and is great for skiing and wake boarding. You continue to go east to the large open water and the Marinas. Its a decent size lake that is not overcrowded at all. From Black dog to the Dam is about a 30 to 40 minute cruise.

large and smallmouth , Hybrid (5-12 lbers), crappie, and some cat fish.

Water clarity - 10 foot visibility on a busy lake day. It is a very clear lake with a lot of rock bottom.

Kaw lake

This is a very nice lake that is in between Keystone (larger) and Skiatook in size. All three lakes are good size lakes. This is a great fishing lake for the normal fishing crappie, bass and hybrids. great for floating , camping and fishing

water clarity - ??? I haven't been there is 20 years as it is too close to Skiatook

Canton Lake

is south of Enid , I have never been there , but have heard good things. Its about a third the size of Skiatook.

You could always come slum with us at Arcadia in Edmond. Its a small lake with ramps, camping, parks. With its smaller size there are almost as many boats on arcadia as there are on Skiatook which is 10 x the size.

Thanks! I read a lot about Skiatook I’m sure we will go there some.
I’m from AR and have lived in MO, Wichita, San Antonio, and Panama City most of my adult life, so I’m not afraid of the heat and humidity

I’m surprised to see Sooner Lake in the Excellent range for clarity, I just assumed it’d be murkyish since it’s smaller. I’m excited to check out the lakes and find our “go to”. This has been a long 2 years that I haven’t even been in the states at all.
My brother has kept my boat for me in Whitesboro, TX.

I’m not concerned......maybe y’all should be
We are in the region (FVG North East Italy) that is not affected, yet. There are travel restrictions and schools have been closed for 2 weeks, any event with more than a few people are being cancelled. Theaters are closed.....the base is following the locals on what is closed and restrictions, plus some. My wife’s career field and degrees are in Public Health, so we are aware and take precautions, our kids have grown up not being germaphobes but washing their hands and not touching their face and such, unfortunately not everyone is like that and the culture around here is no personal space so I can see why it spread so quick in Italy.
hopefully it will burn off in the spring like the flu sort of does.

@Wayloncle first off, thank you for your service. Second, glad ya'll are coming back to the states and your boat is still here waiting on ya.
@djetok thanks for the rundown on so many of the Oklahoma lakes. I know Texoma and Broken Bow pretty good and we've been on Lake Murray once for our gathering one summer when we stayed in the floating cabins. Those are awesome, but expensive! The lake was nice too. Just not real big though.
