Hi, I’m trying to get a plate for this trailer at the Secretary of State and they are asking for documentation on the weight of the trailer. Here’s the information I found on the trailer…
Model number:
WW15PA 16' Trailer
Maximum load capacity is 1135 bs
514 KG

GVWR…Gross Vehicle Weight Rating…
1495 lbs
678 KG
GAWR all axles 1495 lbs

Would the weight of the trailer be…

1495-1135= 360lbs?

How do I convince them to give me a plate? Does anybody have the weight for this trailer listed on a document? Any help would be appreciated!
Thx!

What state are you in. In IL. they ask for the weight but are truly asking for the gross weight.

Your calculation seems right. I agree with @Babin Farms, however, that state Motor Vehicles agencies are usually concerned (and tax) the GVWR as this is the weight of the trailer and the maximum load on the trailer. In the last two weeks, I just did both my truck and my atv trailer here in Delaware and all my state was interested in was the gross weight of both. If you were to registered your trailer here in DE, you would use the 1495 lb. GVWR. One of the reasons (aside from taxes) the state cares, is that in many states once you go above a certain weight (typically 3,000 lbs, although it does vary by state) you may need brakes on the trailer.

Thank you! This makes sense…I will take that GVWR weight to them again and hopefully the person I’m dealing with that day will allow me to get the plate.

Apparently, in Michigan, you do register with the empty weight of the trailer. You can take the trailer to a certified scale and get a accurate weight. Honestly, however, I would consider just using the weight you calculated.

@CameraGuyAl ,

Is this boat new to you?

I enjoy seeing threads on unusual boats. Hope you consider posting a thread about your Bayliner. :D

Hi Jim,

Yeah…this boat is new to me and I’m really nervous about it, LOL. I haven’t owned a jet boat or jet ski in decades. After I get that plate for the trailer, I’m just hoping it will run ok this summer…might need help cleaning the carburetor and a little maintenance. Fingers crossed…I do love that it’s a funky, weird little boat!
