High pitched squeal.

I took my 165 to St John's river for two days, Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I got back home when I went to flush it, I put the water to it gave a high pitched squeal from the pump for about 3 seconds. Scared the S##T out of me. Has not done it again. Any suggestions.

Just let the motor run, and only surge the engine when you are done flushing. The surge should be for evacuating the water from the exhaust system, and no more than two seconds.

1. Supercharger wet clutch dry, or not enough oil. This happens if you throttle a cold engine.
Or 2. Dry Carbon seal. When cold, and not in the water, the carbon seal will whine.

Thanks for the reply, but the sound came from the pump and sounded like a seized bearing. loud as heck but like I said for about 3 seconds. The only thing I found in the pump was some grass. Have cranked it a couple of times after and sounds fine. No loud squeal.

Update: The squeal that I heard must have been the grass that was in the pump, have had it out since and runs fine and runs strong. When I flushed it this time smoke came from the pump, and what I found there was a mangrove seed in the pump. so now before I flush it I will flush the pump first, from the back to front.

From manual ; (1) clean jet pump by spraying water in its inlet and outlet and then spray a coating of XPS lube or equivalent.
