HOA question...

No trailer, bus, camper, motor home, truck larger than three-quarter ton, commercial equipment, .... blah blah... may be parked or stored within X Subdivision except for commercial equipment and vehicles temp located therein for the purpose of performing necessary construction repairs. No stripped down or junk vehicles or any sizable parts thereof shall be permitted to be parked on any street or lot.

Technically it doesn't say boat. They took the time to detail the size of truck so surely if they didn't want boats they would have listed them. Put it on jack stands and get rid of the trailer. Seriously though, I would be shocked if they had any standing in court dictating what you can store in your garage out of sight.

I Would park the boat in the garage and see what if anything comes of it. If no one complains i don't have a problem. If someone complains I would talk it out in the appropriate hoa forum. This is the foregiveness route the persmission route is to call or go to the next hoa meeting and talk it out before someone complains.

I have a relative who lives in an HoA community here in NorCal . If he could have parked his boat out of sight in the back yard or garage he could do so without issue. However, he couldn't fit the boat in the garage nor under the fence line (hoa refused to give him permission to make his fence taller) so he had to move it to offsite storage for about $250 a month. he was concerned that If refused and breached continuously they could in addition to fining him point to the chronic breach clause which Allows them to force the sale of his home, this is usually reserved for non payment of hoa fees but the rumor is that they have used it before successfully for other reasons . He didn't have much room to argue since he read and signed / agreed to the rules before he moved in and before he bought a boat .

No HOA in my neighborhood but we do have a city code / ordinance enforcement department that writes up notices and abatement letters on anonymous complaints from neighbors. Here you can park your car on the street for up to 72 hours after a complaint is made. They put a written warning on your car and mark the tires and road with chalk. On the 73rd hour they tow it and give you a ticket. Also i can't park my boat on my front side driveway without risking a ticket. If it gets called in, they issue me a ticket that day. The first and only time it happened cost me $150 and if i didn't move it within 10 days I would have got another ticket for $250. Of course I kept my boat there for the full 10 day period, nothing like paying $15 a day to park your boat on your property. Like hoa rules I can't do much about these ordinances/laws since they were in place before I moved in and me not knowing about them is no excuse for their breach nor a reason I should not abide by them.

My HOA is bipolar I think. I have gotten letters for just about everything:
too may weeds in the side flower bed (there were hardly any), I've gotten this letter numerous times
Leaving the trash cans out longer than 24 hours after trash pickup (this one was stupid. trash day is normally Tuesday, but because of ice or snow they picked up on Wednesday, I got the letter because of that)
tree branch hanging over sidewalk without minimum 7' clearance overhead (it was a pecan tree late in the season and loaded down with pecans, killed me to have to trim that branch)
brown patches in lawn need to make green again (this was in one of our epic drought years)
Basketball goal not stored far enough behind house (at the time my HOA did not allow basketball goals visible in the front of the house, so you had to set it up, play with it, then roll it to the back of the house when finished

Yet with all of that I have left my boat in front of the house for an entire weekend to work or detail it and have never received a letter

WOW, reading about all of your HOA problems make me very happy that I live in a small rural town.

@BigN8
What is your address so we can send someone out there this weekend??? Lol

That's why I live on 2 acres out in the country, I can do whatever I want to within reason, we have a small HOA that has some basic restrictions like no manufactured homes, homes must be 1800 sq ft or larger, no cattle or pigs, etc.

Same here....we have an 1.5 acres in a subdivision with Deed Restrictions to keep it a nice neighborhood. Homes have to be a min. of 1700 sq ft. Garages have to be side facing. And no mobile or Manufactured homes. And no Farm animals!

i joined my hoa board just so i can work the rules and get changed when possible.

i got my hoa to allow 48 hours of parking in my driveway.

we have our anual meeting in October and and i plan on getting as many proxys as possible and change the rule outright.

A few of us on the HOA blacklist figured we would see how long it would take the watch dogs to figure all of us coordinated this...

Wowsa. Mine states I can not leave it in driveway. Must be in garage. But, if I were to do that(it won't fit btw) I'd have to park a car in visitor parking (a no no). However my by laws also stated I can park it driveway if I am working on it or using it the next day. What's nice is I was in it one day when the president drove by. Never even batted an eye at me.
