I was unlucky enough to shop for a boat since my first boat show at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC in 2007 (Still have the Yamaha Brochure I picked up there). 8 years later I had the cash in hand to buy a boat as soon as my wife and I found one. Of course remember that first part, I was without a boat for the first 8 years that I wanted one... Of course I also had no place to store one or a lake close enough to make it worth buying one...

We had saved for a new home once we sold the one we are in. Couldn't get a decent offer so we kept the house, made small upgrades and placed about 1/3 down on our boat. The rest was financed at 2.99. All I wanted was a small payment that could be done before the kids college starts.

But then dual income and just one kid helps a lot. (well two kids if you count the great dane)

Wow interesting conversation. I bought used and had originally thought about paying cash but then my credit union said they would give me 1.9% for 5 years so I took it. At that rate and the short period I saw no reason to tie up the cash. If I would have bought new I would have had to finance no way I could have tied up that kind of cash and felt comfortable.
