So was out on the lake today and when I got back I found this huge gash. My stomach sunk when I found it. Didn't hit anything that I know of. It's in a weird spot, right on a fin? Maybe hit something at speed, not sure?

So what's the damage? Is it something I can patch up my self and keep using boat this week? Ugh

Black is hard to match, because it fades the most under uv. However being below the waterline, I'd go for it. It looks like there's a crack radiating out, it will have to be ground out.

You should be able to get the right colour from Spectrum Gelcoat.

Give the hull about a week to dry out.

You do not want the raw fiberglass to absorb water. Hard to tell if the cured resin on the fiberglass below the gelcoat was damaged or not. It looks shiney so maybe just a chip out of gelcoat. Either way let it dry. You can help that process with a hair dryer or heat gun. A temporary epoxy patch of a couple of layers will keep the water out of the fiberglass and get you by until you can do it right. However that epoxy patch will cause more prep work, removing it, when it comes time to do the gelcoat patch.

I used the Spectrum black on my 2012 and the color worked really well.
