Hurricane Matthew Vacation ideas

Well with Hurricane Matthew making its way towards the Eastern Seaboard they have already issued a evacuation notice for Coastal South Carolina and canceled schools for the rest of the week. Its extremely premature in my mind but I thinking of taking advantage and heading inland to a lake for a few days. Looking for recommendations but it needs to be far enough inland to not have any weather issues from the storm and would like to keep it withing a 6-8 hour drive of South Carolina if you got any ideas let me know.

Try Percy priest lake in Nashville. Really nice lake and your literally in the middle of Nashville.

Yes but your weekend forecast sucks as well lol due to the storm. I'm looking at Lenier now forecast looks good and plenty of lake houses available for rent. Nashville would be cool but probably a 10 hour tow for so that's a little far for a weekend.

I assume you mean Lake Lanier in GA. It is a big beautiful lake, and you would have no problem finding new places to check out, daily.

If you're willing to travel to Lanier, you may also want to consider Oconee as well. Also big and beautiful. Much different vibe at Oconee vs Lanier.

This time of year may be a great time to explore Lanier. During the summer months it is packed, crazy and sometimes dangerous. After reading my post, I think Lanier would be perfect now. If you go during the busy season, check out Oconee, or my lake...Allatoona.

Lanier is a big lake and I'm sure you would enjoy it. If you want better scenery for not that much more of a drive, you might want to check out Lake Burton. It's a super clean mountain lake. Here's a pic of Nick Saban's house. I've never been to Burton but have heard nothing but great things. If you're looking for some downtime this would be a very peaceful getaway.

He actually sold it a few years back because he has another home on the lake. I'd take this 11mm getaway!

Lake Jocassee or Lake Keowee. Still in your state.....but inland.

Also Lake Hartwell is nice and clean. Good fishing if you like that.

I figured with the few extra free days I would try and get into some sunshine instead. I also would have to find someone willing to go do that with me as I would not want to roll solo out there. If I stay though I may hit @JROD up and do that.

The surf will definately be up! I am heading out there either Thursday or Friday to make preparations etc, don't know if my better half wants to stay but I do!!! It'll be awesome to get some air and ride up and down some big waves. ;-)

@JROD I will know by tomorrow if I'm staying if so I will shoot you a text a should be free both Thursday and Friday. It looks like Thursday we can catch some 7-8 foot seas during the day or Friday we can catch some 12-15 ft seas if we choose.

Lake martin Alabama looks like it's 7-8 hours from you. Awesome lake.

Nevermind...they are in the process of drawdown. It's down 5 ft from full pool. Not sure if the ramps are accessible.
