Ignition coil tip

Found out, somewhat by accident, that the ignition coils for the YZF-R1 fit the MR1. Only difference is you'll have to go to the CR9E instead of CR9EB plug. The difference is the terminal at the top of the plug (B stands for soild terminal)

Why? The R1 coils are available at $30 for 4, the MR1 coils are $30 for 1. I keep 2 spares in the boat now after having a no-start because of bad coils.

Any benefit of a solid vs ? Plug?
Any benefit to the r1 coil other than price?

No real difference in the plugs. Only the top connector. Price and easier availability for the coils. I actually bought them by accident thinking they were the exact same, but it worked out.

Wow that sounds good have you had any issues since you swapped them out and how did run

What kind of boat do you have and are you taking about the plug wires are the actual coil it self

No issues, runs better than before since the old coils were probably weak before they completely failed. I looked to see if higher power ones were available that might help with our fouling issues, but at $675, I'll just keep changing plugs.

Its an AR230 with coil on plug, there are no wires.

thanks for the link, that's a big money saver,

we don't hear of many coils going bad, I'm curious about your issue,
how do you determine which coil needs to be replaced ? Do have a meter on the boat with you and just check them one by one?

Great tip @mb300sd. I'm just wondering if the R1 coil has the same waterproof standard as the MR1 coil whereas the MR1 engine is the marinized version of the R1 motorcycle engine. May be worth getting a spare anyway.
