Ok, I’ve searched for over an hour, trying to find my answer, to no avail. I’m trying to remove my impellers to have them refurbished, and all the threads I find show impellers with wrench flats on the leading side of the impeller, but mine have none. I’m sure it’s been answered on here somewhere, but I’m coming up empty. My impellers have no wrench flats, so what’s my next move? I presume I need to take the bearing housing off, and something on the backside of the impeller has flats? If so, I’ll have to put a pin in this until Monday, when I get to work, and have a press at my disposal. We run a shallow lake, and around the docks it’s only a few feet deep. I’ll have to be more careful about it from now on, because it’s really done a number on these things.

I bet that takes an internal spline/tooth type tool. Check out solas impeller removal tools.

Yeah, I've been googling the crap out of it since posting, and it looks like it's a Solas thing vs Yamaha OEM. I messaged them about it, but will keep looking for a definitive answer.

But, hey, there are only a couple nicks on that impeller.. It could wait? Er....

Let us know what you find about the spline tool.

LOL, a couple nicks every quarter inch! I noticed it was starting to cavitate late last summer, but forgot to check the impellers until this spring. I rarely juice the throttles, normally just ease into it, so I forgot about it in the fall. She's pretty jacked up. I'd love to just get a new set, but we have 3 month old twins, and need to be a little frugal for now.

So, it appears that a special Solas tool is necessary to remove these POS's, which kinda pisses me off, because why wouldn't they just use wrench flats like Yammie does? Also, it delays me another week or so. Will be down to the wire by the time I get these things off, sent in for refurbishing, returned, and reinstalled. Anyway, for my application, WR007 is the tool needed to slide up inside and engage the impeller for removal. Below is an amazon link for it. Gonna be a hard sell to just buy new impellers, but daggone, it's tempting...

I am almost certain that I have two of those impeller laying around, I’m certain I have one. If you are willing to pay expedited shipping I will ship it to you that way on emergency loan (if I only have one).

you’re probably not interested in selling said impellers, are you? Another reason I’d love to just buy new ones is because it would give me a backup set...lol

Yep solas tool needed. None if the aftermarket impeller mfg have wrench flats.
I’ve seen plenty of posts referring to the impeller shaft tool, I actually bought that last year on a whim, knowing I’ll be using it someday. I just don’t recall ever seeing a post about the actual impeller tool. Oh well, it should be here by the end of next week.

Just be sure you order the right one. There are a couple different ones

@dgfreeze , sorry but neither my Solas or oem impellers are for sale. Not sure either would work for you anyway since we have different boats/engines an yours spin faster so the pitch on your impellers is likely different. Note the pitch between the port and starboard impeller is slightly different as well. Consider sending your set into impros to be refurbished.

FYI I keep my oem set around for spares purposes and used them several times now, once when the blade of one of my Solas impellers got torn off and again when I had to send the replacement Solas impeller back to be pitched.

Yeah, I wondered whether yours would even work, but thought maybe they were leftover from a previous boat. My current plan is to send them in to be refurbished, but by the time I get them off, sent in, and get them back, I might miss a few boating opportunities. I’d love to buy a replacement set, then get these refurbished as a backup set, but I’ll have to make a helluva sales pitch to the wife for that. Lol

@dgfreeze , check out SBT , small block technologies, I think they have an impeller exchange program which should minimize your down time.

This is what you seek.

Not sure if sbt has these in stock to exchange. I have 2 impellers that are in pretty good condition you could borrow, but shipping is not cheap.

Yep, that’s what I ordered last night. I keep debating, but I’m thinking more and more about delving into my gun money for a new set, and then having these refurbished this fall/winter. I appreciate the offer, and will definitely keep it in mind, but if I can just order new ones, I should be set. My birthday was yesterday, so maybe I can play that card. Lol

Well, I guess I’m not a patient person. Didn’t want to wait until the tool came, so I got adventurous. I work in a custom steel fabrication/mechanic shop, so I grabbed a piece of seamless pipe with the right ID, machined the OD down to fit, chucked it up in the milling machine, and machined the teeth to engage the impellers. After I got that sorted out, I just welded a large nut to the end of it, and I was in business. Worked perfectly, now I have no choice but to wait for the new impellers that I ordered.

Nice! Now you should make 100 of them and sell them online to recoup the cost of your impeller replacement!

Haha, I don’t think I can turn a profit when the Solas tool is only 10-15 bucks. This is just a testament to my lack of patience, and aptitude for redneck ingenuity.
