So all signs are pointing to the nmea communication error coming from the transducer. This is installed through the hull under the large exhaust cannister in the very back of the boat. I followed the wire to it today and I can get my hand on it and feel the stainless steel wiring put in place to lock the install. I'm wondering if anyone has had to change one of these before? I am assuming I can somehow cut the wire and then unthread and pull the old one and then install the new one, but with such limited access I'd like to be sure before I spend the money on the part that is non-returnable.

Someone has replaced one of these... ????
I have not replaced it yet, but hope to. My problem is I cannot find a replacement and Yamaha is saying they have no idea when it will be available. Could be over a year to get one. Not good not having a depth finder. Does anyone have an idea where I can get one?
Thank you!

I ended up replacing the transducer with the AirMar DT800 per Cyclop's recommendation. If you don't screw things up like I did, the replacement process is not terrible. I have not had a chance to test it out yet to see if it fixes my depth finder issue. Hopefully this weekend.
