New Yamaha AR192 owner here, so this may be a dumb question. Just took the boat out on the water and not sure how it is 'supposed' to work.

When the boat is in idle/neutral the boat turns clockwise. Is that 'normal'? Takes about 30-45 seconds to turn 360 degrees.

This is a used 2013, not a new boat but new to me!

That is NOT normal ? What is normal is for a direct drive jet boat ( yours and all other Yamahas) to have some forward thrust even when the throttle is in neutral. There is no true "neutral" on a jet boat. The strange part is that its turning noticeable in either direction ? Sounds to me like your jet nozzle on the back is not aligned properly with your steering wheel ? You may need to put the wheel in true center position , then go back and look at the nozzle. It should be at exactly 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the transom. You may need to disconnect the steering linkage on the side of nozzle and readjust ? Good Luck.

Or one of your buckets may be lower/higher creating the turning thrust

Most definitely! That's why i shouldn't try to respond to questions while I'm at the office!

Adjusting the left/right on the bucket should be an easy task

Aside from checking the bucket also check the nozzle is not damaged or tweaked when the steering wheel is straight or your perceived straight. Another thing is do you have a lot of gear or heavy items stowed on one side of the boat? Sometimes that can cause a list and may cause you to circle around.

There is a YouTube video of a NY guy that shows exactly how to adjust the reverse gate to achieve true neutral where the idle thrust is equal parts forward and backward.
When adjusted correctly, your boat should not move forward. It’s an easy adjustment but may take a few times to get the bucket post/threads just right.

My keelless 192 that is in hiding until spring will spin with the motor on or off.

This sit and spin feature can be very helpful or unhelpful depending on the situation.

I swear I have read about the sit and spin on here in the not so recent past, but my search for a link has been unsuccessful.

In any case, my spin can go in either direction with engine off depending on loading, wind, and current as the 190 size Yamaha boats are very light for its size. When the engine is on at idle and everything is perfectly calm, the boat will turn / spin in one direction quicker due to the rotation of the impeller.

It maybe something to get looked at when you pull it out of the water. Even on my 19ft jet boat when I’m waiting to fill up or pulling along side a pontoon the boat tends to wander and spin oddly (using a bump and turn method) when in neutral. I personally find that moving above 6 knots and moving back into neural causes me to spin often in a random direction. If it’s not a mechanical issue it’s just something you’ll learn to handle and you’ll master it quickly I promise, heck think of it as a feature, you can do a 180 on the spot!

It is a single engine with no keel put one of my steering units on it and you will have a boat that steers properly, either the viper with top fangs or the super ultimate it will be a new boat at all speeds in forward and reverse.
