Hi there I have a Sugarsand Heat Jet boat at CAS power marine. The mechanic is having a hard time to get the steering cable installed. 8 hours labor already and still no joy. Anyone know if there is a special way to install this? Does the jet pump have to be removed? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't know of any special trick on those, You may get some info at www.sbtontheweb.com in their steering cable install tutorial section.

Is he having trouble removing the old cable, pulling the new cable through the hull or connecting the ends? I can't think of anywhere else he might have a problem. On my Yamaha replacing the two steering cables only took a few hours.

He may be having an issue figuring out how they secured the outer cable some use half moon clips or other little tricks to secure it. But it should not take more that a 6 pack and a few hours to do a cable.

I remember reading somewhere on those that the back of the cable is larger diameter than the front and will not fit through the hole in the bulkhead. I believe what they did was to remove the back end and cut it off, then attach the front of the new cable to the back of the old one with tape and pull through to the front. I think he said he had to remove the bucket and nozzle to get at bolts easily though.

that should be simple enough to verify by checking the new cable to see if one end is larger than the other.

If he got it done right; no biggie; but I would be damned if I paid him 8hrs for him to learn. Eight hours is is crazy long. I am thinking an hour...maybe 2 if it is tricky at most for a professional. That's why I try to do it all myself.
