So I’m looking to add tower speakers to my new 2021 212s. The dealer told me that using anything other than what Yamaha sells could have issues and of course they want to charge 1400 for install of the Yamaha slam pak. Having dealt with car stereos for years, I can’t understand how adding a aftermarket amp could have any issue when the only connection is the output RCAs. Second, is anyone aware of difficulties with running the wires to the tower speaker locations? Is the a special harness required?

Haven't seen it, but speakers are speakers are speakers. Unless they have some really strange wiring harness for some reason you could run new cables, if needed, or splice wires out and connect them up.

I can't imagine that they have any sort of thing that would prevent you from adding an aftermarket amp. Cut wires and reconnect at the very least, I would guess.

The saleman was just trying to get a sale - same as car dealers who try to push their own brands to keep the profits in-house. You can install whatever you want...just make sure the amp and speakers are marine rated for the high humidity levels on boats.
