Thursday, I installed my new Jet Boat Pilot Lateral Thruster on my FSH 190, and it is an improvement (took the boat out today) worth having - especially at the Group Buy price. I had always had JBP Thrust Vectors (installed them myself at the dealer prior to delivery), and they were a significant improvement over just the articulating keel.
During my install of the the Lateral Thruster, I thought Karma came into play when I tried to remove the top snap ring from the articulating keel pin; half of the original snap ring had fallen off some time ago. The remaining portion of the ring was just wedged in the pin's groove, and it took almost no force to remove it. I thought - wow - I am lucky that I am doing this install now before that pin works its way out.
Well, twenty minutes later I was not so sure about my good karma. It took 20 minutes of unrelenting pushing, wiggling, prying and finally using channel lock pliers to twist the pin back and forth with constant downward pressure to remove the pin. During all of this muscling, I was always careful not to put any pressure on the bottom snap ring. When it came time to reinstall the pin, I liberally coated it with oil. It still took at least 7 minutes of the same type of work to put it back.
In case your were wondering, how is my steering with this near impossible to move pin; my steering is great. It is smooth and effortless. The pin does not create a problem with rotation - only up and down.
