Welcome @ILTGB and rest assure that your issue with the cleanout plug is common. YAMAHA's stance on plug blowouts is that it was improperly installed (which I'm sure is the cause of some), but there are many other potential causes. Some of them include, a buildup of gunk in the housing where the plug latches, also a possible buildup of water and debris inside the plug that can prevent it from securing properly or causing it to release unexpectedly. Whatever the real cause is, there are two main solutions for them. I have had great success with my cobra Ez-locks from Jeff @Cobra Jet Steering LLC and the second are made from Will @JetBoatPilot. Both provide secondary measures to prevent the plugs from blowing out.
