Successfully removed the hydroturf off our 2013 SX190. It simply turned into dust whenever it was touched, and we kept tracking black dust into the boat whenever we used it. I didn’t fool with it last year since that was our first year, but today, I dealt with it.

I’ve done a lot of reading and YouTube watching, and didn’t want to fool with heat, ice, painters tools, or hours and hours of scraping. I read exactly one post and watched exactly one video covering the use of a power tool, and figured….thats the way to go.

Happy to report it took about 10 minutes. I used a Milwaukee oscillating tool with a Diablo rigid flat blade ($15 for a two pack at Home Depot, marked as suggested use for adhesive). I got under one corner and just started peeling it away with the Milwaukee. One blade worked for the whole platform, which I removed from the boat and set on sawhorses. Our platform didn’t have the bumpy surface so it peeled up easily, mostly with the glue intact.

Once I got the turf off, I went back over the surface with the tool to scrape up additional glue. Then I covered it with Goo Gone cling spray and let it sit about 30 minutes. Scraped it off by hand with a metal scraper, then did it again. The whole surface is mostly glue-free right now but I plan on re-covering it with knock off Marine Mat, so the few small spots I don’t feel like dealing with will be covered.

I did try a knock off 3M eraser wheel… it worked really well, but left an orangey yellow discoloration on the fiberglass that won’t come off. So…don’t do that. But otherwise, pretty easy and drama free!
