My Thrust Vector X

Looks great. what is the difference between the X and XV? I've been thinking of ordering the Vectors and lateral thrusters but was not sure what the main difference b etween the 2 are. I have cobra's installed currently and they do not do much.

Not to sway you but what do you mean cobras don't so much? They are reported to work equally if not better than the TV on some situations

This is my first JB, and really first boat we've owned. We rent boats a lot down in the Keys.

Under slow speeds, using the no wake mode, you have to contstantly adjust the wheel. And not just little corrections but full lock to full lock at times. A local lake we go to a lot, we tend to launch in the no wake zone as its much less crowded and a great area to relax. But it's a good half hour ride to the open throttle part of the lake, and it's exhausting to keep the boat strait. My wife piloted the boat yesterday and she could not believe how bad the boat tracks. Under normal throttle its 100x easier. I also fish a lot and we troll from time to time, and friends have also noted how hard it is to control the boat. Docking is a bit of a pain. Some days I can dock it perfectly, others its all over the place. Just about zero control when in low speeds. Had some cross winds yesterday and took me a few tries to get the boat docked.

Also, looking at Cobra's site, looks like I have much older fins. Our fins are maybe half the size of the new ones.

Can't provide any input on the TV' due to the fact I have never messed with them, but I honestly have to say the difference I saw in how my boat performed/handled at low speeds with the addition of the Cobras is night and day. When we were test driving the boat with the agent he was initially taking us out and I was watching how much he was literally having to turn the wheel left and right just to keep straight. I thought to myself he either likes to turn the wheel a lot or there is something else going on here. Well when it was my turn to take that no wake zone low speed drive I soon understood why he was having to do it. As soon as we got the boat back to Huntsville I ordered the Cobras, installed them and to this day I do not regret that decision. Do you have to still turn your wheel at times to keep straight at low speeds? Yes you do. Its not a fully fledged "your boat will never make un-commanded turn or shift again" fix in my eyes, but it made dealing with the steering of the boat 100x better than it was. I think the TV's will do the same and honestly the Cobras were just represented better at the time I was looking.

Keep us posted on how you like them @rayg1022!!!! They look damn sharp, I can say that much for sure.

Maybe you didnt get the Mega Fangs. I considered the smaller ones initially myself but went with the Megas once I got to reading it a bit more indepth.

I noticed you're in Honey Brook, where are you boating? I'm near Harrisburg, grew up in Coatesville.

We've had the boat for just over a year. We take it to Blue Marsh a bit, Elk River/North East MD, Barnegate Bay in NJ. I've also trailered it up to Cape Cod last year, and twice down to Oak Island NC.

Most likely using a guess based on the year of his boat he probably has an older version of steering, cobras have been around longer than any other systems that being said if he is accustom to having high speed assistance and he removes them he may be in for a surprise. and if he upgraded to the new super steering he would definitely be in for a big positive surprise.

Wish you all would have stayed on topic was wondering the difference between between x and xv myself untill it got derailed onto cobras

I've been reading on JBP's website about the two. Seems like they are pretty similar except one offers better spray control at slow speeds. Meaning anyone on the swim platform does not get spray. Maybe?

I wrote JBP asking which one they recommend and they said the XV.

As far as I know one is the old model not compatible with 2019 models, hence cheaper and also eventually being discontinued. But I'll let @JetBoatPilot confirm

I put both the X and lateral thrusters on earlier this summer and am very happy with them. I don't believe there's much of a difference between the X & XV beyond boat compatibility. Both work with the lateral thrusters.

I chose that combo because of compatibility and ease of install and clear instructions (put them on while the boat was in the lake on the lift!). Performance has been good and even my wife is confident behind the wheel after our first outing and runs the kids half the time for surfing.

Not having line of sight on when the steering wheel is straight has been my biggest problem, but hopefully solved that last week with a sticker (like many others on the board).

The new Cobras are probably as big as the largest TVs, I think, so their effectiveness has got to be similar at no wake. But - those stay down at speed.

To me that is a very nice feature of Cobras as it provides some steering capability even without jet thrust, for example during an avoidance maneuver while slowing down (and pulling the throttles back). I have had many a moment, especially in narrow channels, when I was grateful to have that.

With the non-keeled boats, the big Cobras feel great when crossing wakes etc - you get a better feel/idea where you going to land the off of a jump, lol.

Wait. What's this sticker magic you speak of @Shady28 ?

Thrust Vector X was released this year to fit all the new nozzles and also all previous models. The XV does not fit the newer style nozzles (2019-Newer). Both function about the same. The X does have a double spring which does a bit better job keeping the fins down in the no wake zone but only marginally. If you want to save money, the XV is the way to go. If you have a 2019 X or Wake is the only option. Also the Wake version, which is beginning to ship out this week, is the only version that offers a dry ride for tubers and a clean wake for surfing and wakeboarding.

There was an issue a few years ago where single engine boats and some 21 footers had a mist that was getting back into the cockpit while at higher speeds. That issue was resolved in 2016 and has not been an issue since.

The Wake version sounds sweet!

Does it effect top speed or acceleration?

Does it effect top speed or acceleration?
No it does not. The fins and deflectors pivot upward, completely above the water at speed.
