you can run it out if water but need to keep it short. I aim for no more than 30 sec at a time. The carbon seal that prevents water from entering the boat at the drive shaft is only cooled when sitting in water. There is no easy way to do this out of water. Otherwise Scarab engines are cooled via antifreeze. The hose is to flush the exhaust loop only. Done to remove salt, or winterize for example.
