New '23 Scarab. Dealer replaced the steering cable with 1 hour on clock. Said it was rusted and needed to be replaced before going back out on the water. So I didn't really have much time behind the wheel but the steering wheel seems "notchy" when turning at certain points, almost like the cable is binding. This normally occurs after reversing direction when the wheel is turned to either side about 30 degrees. Seems to only happen when trying to go back in the other direction after turn. I'm wondering if the dealer somehow was supposed to lube the cable and possibly forgot? Other than that I wouldn't think this would be normal operation. Dealer is also 2 hour round trip so not crazy about taking the boat back and having to wait for them to diagnose and/or fix the issue if there is one.

Any suggestions or is this just possibly the way the steering behaves on the 165?

steering cable failures appear to be a common issue lately on several newer boats

It's suppose to be smooth. If not, yeah lube is needed or the install wasn't done correctly. Also check the bolt and nut on the nozzle to make sure it moves freely.

Disconnect the linkage from the nozzle, then at least you know what is causing the problem.

Guys thanks for the replies but you have any pics to reference? Are these connections under the helm somewhere or at the back of the boat?

Look literally at the nozzle. Right side I believe it is. You'll see a single bolt and nut holding the cable there. The cable pulls and pushes on the side of the nozzle to change the direction of thrust.
