New Boat gets a new Truck!

I love our new boat but hated towing it with our Suburban. Decided it was time to upgrade. I had a 2009 Silverado but it only had a 4.8 and a 4 speed trans. I traded it in on a 2014 Ram 2500 Tradesman. Towed the AR240 about 50 miles and it did amazing. The Burb and the Silverado transmissions would get up to 230+ and I was just waiting on one of them to die. Air temps today were near 100 and the Ram never got above 175. The power is also amazing. I had an idea the truck would be great since my Father has a 2014 Long Horn Laramie with the same Cummins and Transmission. He tows a 42ft 5th Wheel and has had nothing but good things to say. Looking forward to the many miles ahead.



Have plans to upgrade the wheels and tires and a few other small things.

The Wife and I are ready to head to some other lakes now. I know there are a few nice ones in GA and upstate SC. Also, we can't wait to drive down to FL for the Bimini Trip!

Do you tow in tandem?

No, the legal length to do so in Texas is 65'. That is measured from the front of the truck to the back of the last trailer. I thought I wanted to in the beginning, but the more I thought about it I figured it's not a good idea. Had our 5th wheel camper already had the beefed up rear structure to have a hitch mounted to it I may have tried it. If I was a metal fabricator I may have built something myself. In the end I figured we'd be better off just getting a second tow vehicle to handle the boat as our next vehicle purchase. Now that's not gonna happen either since we've now upgraded to a cruiser and we're selling the Yamaha. We are however keeping the camper.

Check the laws in the state you plan to tow tandem in to make sure it's legal. Then think long and hard about it if it's worth the risk and extra stress. The way some people drive and the roads that we need to drive on with the said idiots, it's not worth the stress to me.

I don't plan to purchase a camper anytime soon. My wife has a allergy when it comes to camping...lol!
