I am picking up my new to me 2013 Yamaha 242 Limited S on Wednesday. I've wanted a Yamaha boat for almost 10 years now, so I finally went out an got one. I've been looking at the forum for the past 2 days and reading all about the Bimini trips and look forward to doing one in the future. I am also interested in doing the Cooper River trip to the locks on Lake Moultrie when that happens again. Can't wait to get the boat out on the water and start enjoying it. Look forward to eventually meeting up with some of the members on here one day. I am sure I'll have more questions once I have the boat in my possession.

Where are you in SC? We are in the Upstate, and spend most of our time on Lake Keowee.

I am in Sumter. Not sure what my main boating location will be yet. We will probably split time between lakes and the coast near Mt Pleasant.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. :Welcome:

For some reason your loaction is coming up as a zip code instead of city and state. If I am not mistaken you are at Shaw AFB near Sumter which would make you @Rob9550 neighbors.

If you ever make it out to Lake Murray drop me an IM. Enjoy the forum and the boat.

@DustinS , I also live in Sumter and regularly go to Wateree and Murray since they're the closest. Are you stationed at Shaw? If I remember correctly, 29152 is the base. Let me know if you have any questions or need a hand with the new boat. Welcome to the forums and the family!

I do live in Sumter SC, stationed at Shaw AFB, I updated my location. We picked the boat up yesterday, all went well with the delivery and she runs great for a 4 hr old boat with only 49 hours on her. We will be hitting Wateree this weekend to get familiar with how she handles. Give me strength because I am going to attempt to teach my wife how to dock and trailer the boat as long as we don't hold anyone else up from enjoying their day on the water. We look forward to getting the boat out on multiple lakes and the coastal region. I have already started looking for houses with dockage to rent in the keys for the Xmas timeframe.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm sure I'll be asking for your expertise in the near future.

Where do you work at Shaw? I am in the Gambler AMU. We are heading to Murray on Saturday and you are more than welcome to join us. Give me a call at 803-795-9599 if you want to meet up. @Mainah, give me a call if you are going to be out tomorrow.

@Rob9550, I am the Control Tower manager. Your shirt is our old shirt, I ran into him today, mentioned you, and he said that you had been telling him all about the Bimini trip. We are going to Wateree on Saturday, hopefully a little less crowded, to get our feet wet with the boat. I will definitely give you a call in the future, my wife and I want to hear all about the Bimini trip. I have been showing her the pictures and videos and I am pretty sure she is onboard for going next year. If you ever want to come out to the tower and take a tour or talk boats give me a call, 478-919-8859 or 895-2624 (work).

Rob Finton is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a few years. I was the assistant shirt in EMS for a year and we responded to a few calls together. I will have to take you up on the offer to come to the tower, never been in one before. Same goes for the Flight Line if you want a tour of the F-16.

In regards to the Wateree Rec Area, make sure you go to launch on the left if you are facing the water. Its a much steeper angle and will allow you to unload much easier. With that said, it is much more narrow and you will need to be careful not to hit the sides. The wind will also give you fits in the afternoon when you are trying to load up. It will try to push you, so make sure that you lower the bimini top to keep it from acting like a sail. Remember to take your time and don't rush. Everyone there is military and won't care if it takes you a few times to get it down. I will say that Jakes Landing on Murray is a great launch and the closest to Sumter. They only charge $8 to leave the truck and trailer for the day. They also have nice slips to tie up to while you retrieve the truck. If you need anything give me a call.

So yesterday was a success. No issues launching or recovering the boat. I did have a clean out port plug blow out right after we got out on the water. It jammed itself at an angle in the tube which made it fun to get out. Other than that, it was a successful day on the water.

One question, I at times have a 500 rpm difference between the two motors with the throttle handles matched, is this normal?
