I know with the weather the way it is, snowing in the south from Texas to the Carolina's and Virginia. It's hard to think about boats when your marina is frozen over. But since I live in Vermont, I'm over it already, I have to start thinking about next year, or Cabin Fever will take hold.

Today, we decided to check out the progress of the new Marina in town, Burlington Harbor Marina on the waterfront in Burlington, where it is not frozen yet. Previous to this marina, there were no marina's in Burlington to slip 30'+ boats. Kind of ridiculous. Main reason is it is kind of exposed to conditions with a breakwater to protect the waterfront area. Here are are a few news links aboout it. https://www.mynbc5.com/article/construction-begins-on-new-burlington-harbor-marina/20976659 and another channel if you prefer. https://www.mychamplainvalley.com/n...-burlington-waterfront-next-spring/1321084516.

The reason I am bringing it up is that is where we will be slipping the Beneteau next season. The deeper water at that port will be better for us in our deep draft sailboat as we found it hard for us to leave the Mallets Bay area when the lake level gets low, nerve racking if you dont know your depth sounder yet. Now we have direct access to the broad lake and so many other benefits Burlington has to offer, Pretty stoked! The area is still a construction site and the other half would not let me walk in to take any closer pictures.

That's our slip on A dock if you want to visit us next year. Here are few more pics. I will try to explain as I go.
Standing with the Coast Guard station on the right are C, D and E docks beyond the small breakwater. Yes, that is New York across the Lake.

Now with Coast Guard station on left you can spot the ramp down to B dock.

And finally a peek at A dock. You can see part of it, not finished, heading out towards the light house. That is a floating wave attenuation breakwater dock. http://sfmarinausa.com/floating-breakwaters/

We are psyched, because now we have access to great take-out food while we are just hanging at the Marina in the evenings. The City needed this.

@zipper you have to think warm thoughts in your climate just to stay warm! Then to think about boats and the coming spring is the best thing to think about period. I'm always thinking about our boats and when we can go out again.

An aerial photo from this past Fall. You can see part of "A" dock in the middle of pic. and the rest of the wave attenuating "A" dock in lower left, within the Coast Guard breakwater. Coast Guard station has the Blue roof. From our slip on "A" dock, it is a quick Paddleboard ride to North Beach in upper right of pic.

It was a beautiful day out on the Lake today. We found the water a bit hard, but that made it easier to walk on. And we were not the only ones out there today. I took this 180° panaramic shot while standing at our slip space for this season, 7 weeks away, on the ice covered concrete wave attenuating dock A. Looking back at the rest of the nice floating wood covered docks.

The wood looks like IPE. The boards are heavy.

We walked out to the Breakwater in the harbor.

Funny to think the Beneteau will be here in 8 weeks, being as cold as it has been.

Hello from A dock at Burlington Harbor marina.

I recognize that area...isn’t the waterfront museum/aquarium close by? Great spot to hangout on your boat!

Well a month later this is what the Waterfront looks like at the new Marina. You can see the Breakwater out there, that we walked all over in my previous post. Now they can finish installing the wrap around section, A dock west, of the floating wave attenuating dock that will enclose the Marina.

Still a few Icebergs out there, but it wont be long now, they are opening May 1. We will not be here until mid May.

While walking around the Marina I decided to pick out some new galv. chain for my anchor and rode. I think it will hold.

Just Kidding...this is the chain used to secure the floating Al./wood covered docks to the bottom of the Lake.
And this is the chain used to secure the floating wave attenuating concrete docks to the bottom.

We found this sunset perch at the Waterfront at a small Park adjacent to the marina.

There is still a lot of construction and ground work to complete before May 1, but it seems the Lake is now cooperating. Will be here mid May.

The new Marina finally opened on Saturday May 25. Just a little later than expected. They said the cold Vermont Winter and the Lake in flood stage had delayed the opening. The management co. and builder are from Annapolis, Trident Marine Group | Proven ability to accommodate any kind of project Happy to be there finally. The slip where our Beneteau will sit is not completed yet, so we are in a temporary slip with only a 30' finger dock. It is a little tight getting in there as it was setup for smaller boats. We arrived Sunday and we are only the 7th boat here. Narrow finger docks with the 30' slips but nice wide main docks.

A friend of ours took this picture of the New Marina on Memorial Day during a fly by with his Cesna. You can see that only "B" dock is finished, where all the boats are slipped. The contractors have been finishing up laying down the chain to anchor the other docks. Even though, there are some nice boats showing up.

Was at the Marina last night hanging out, enjoying a Long Trail Ale and helping Willow make the final adjustments to the new Sunbrella Helm station/Nav Pod/steering wheel cover for the boat. Beautiful Summer Solstice evening on the Lake. We got hungry and decided to walk across the street to Foam Brewers | Burlington VT .

20190621_184555.jpg

Yes, the big S.S. pot on the left was boiling the Wort for a small batch.

We ordered a couple of beers from their list that is always changing, the IPA I enjoyed last week was not on the list last night. Willow really enjoyed the Aquarium and I had the X-Ray Specs.

20190621_184513.jpg

We each ordered the Charcuterie board/slate with Vermont Cheeses on it. Wanted to see how our old competitors were doing, I liked 3 of the 4 selections.

20190621_185356.jpg

There is a rotation of Food Trucks that park outside if You want something else. You can bring it in to enjoy with your Beer.
It is pretty awesome to have all the food choises within a 10min. walk from the boat.

Rockin and Rollin in 20 kt. winds, gusts to 30 today at the marina. The concrete breakwater dock is knocking down the whitecaps.
The marina is almost finished, just the ships store, office and head in the foreground to complete. There are rumors of a restaurant on the second level.

New section of dock, to replace a damaged/doctored section to the right in the pic. A storm last Winter/Spring did some damage. They are also replacing four sections of the breakwater dock that failed, exposing the foam core. They are getting ready for the Off season, The breakwater sections are newly arrived and waiting nearby.
