We made the leap and traded in my wifes Denali for a new Ford F150 Sport 4x4 with the new 2.7 liter Ecoboost engine. I tell you what this truck is a monster at towing and will give any V8 a go. When you put the pedal to the floor she just takes off way more than the 3.5 Ecoboost. My wife loved this truck so I couldn't say no, plus the Denali was really giving us a lot of problems.

Congrats on the new truck. Interesting that the 2.7 Ecoboost is faster than the 3.5. What is the incentive for anyone to choose the 3.5 Ecoboost?

That is awesome! Congrats on the new rig. Hope the bath you took wasn't too bad, but it seemed to be worth it. Nice color choice too!

Looks great! I bet the color of the boat had nothing to do with the color choice of the truck, right? ;)

I just got a new F150 also. How much drop of the trailer hitch do you have ? 2"or 3"?

Nice truck, congrats. Looks like the test drive included a test tow? Even the rims match!!! Well done ;)

I don't know, something about just forcing more air into smaller displacement doesn't sit right with me for the long haul. I think the 3,5 might be a better compromise. We should start to see the real world results in another few years.

2.7 liter? My Pinto engine was almost that big. Congratulations. I am sure it will run much better than my Pinto.

It was by chance that the truck and boat semi-match. The colors aren't perfect but close enough. ;) The wife wanted the most female looking truck so that was the color and trim she wanted. The 3.5 Ecoboost is still the top dog for towing but given the weight of our boats and the trucks 7600 lb towing capacity we chose to get the smaller more fuel efficient engine since its our daily driver over my dually.

@cep022 The truck drops about 2 inches or so if I had to guess. My only complaint so far is the rings that the safety straps clip in to are really small so getting my safety chains off take some doing. I plan on getting some extensions so it wont be a problem in the future. One cool feature is the intelligent trailer connector. It tells us when a light is out or any issues with the trailer. Pretty neat for the wife to not worry about it.

Given that this block is made of the iron graphite that my 6.7 diesel is made of I trust that it will hold up over time. I think ford is basically applying everything they have learned from the diesel side and putting it to use in these engines.

@CDENsomnia Nice Truck! I have been drooling over the new fords and trying to decide between the daily driver benefits of the 2.7L ecoboost vs the additional towing power of the 3.5L ecoboost. Sounds like from your experience the 2.7L tows just fine. Does the 2.7L really wind up high rpms to get the job done? Or is like the 3.5L and just goes along at 2000rpm without a care in the world? I have towed a 23ft travel trailer with my dad's 3.5L ecoboost and it just drones along at low rpms without winding up like the V8s do. I really like that and just wondering if 2.7L ecoboost is the same.

Also how was the buying experience? Were they willing to negotiate and come off MRSP at all? Looking at the lack of available incentives and no low financing deals, Ford seems to think these trucks are very hot commodities. I will likely wait until they start to pile up at dealerships and they get a few more incentives before I pull the trigger. Otherwise there might be a Ram or a Chevrolet in my future.

The 2.7 has tons of power at around 2000rpms. They say that's the sweet spot for those engines. No high rpms have been witnessed even when really mashing the gas. Mileage has been around 22 and the engine isn't broke in yet without the boat. With the boat we were seeing 10 to 14 depending on speed and terrain.

The buying experience was limited as most of the trucks either were platinums which are ridiculously expensive or xlts which didn't have leather and with. 5 yr old that's a must. We talked with several dealers which all wanted roughly the same amount of money for the same truck. But we settled with a dealer that's popular in our area and their marketing is 50 dollars over invoice not msrp plus rebates. I won't kid you these trucks are crazy expensive but the engine doesn't change that number by too much between options. So far we are very impressed with this truck!
