While checking spark plug prices online, I found NGK V LFR6A spark plugs at Chaparell motors and Ebay. What are your thoughts on this for the 1.8 motors?LFR6A.jpg

I say give it a shot Gary!! What is the price difference over the standard plug?

I sent off an email with several questions to the technical department about this plug. I will post their comments when I receive the answers.

Did anyone ever end up using this plug. I am curious if the (V) power worked okay. They actually seem to be cheaper?

I'm sure whether you had these plugs in or the standard plugs in no one would ever know the difference unless they were told after the fact. "Increased fuel economy"....Yeah ok

I was looking at some dyno data for sportbikes and those type of plugs produced an extra 4hp (on a 100hp bike) on the dyno. Worth trying out. Although there used to be similar splitfire plugs (never tried them) and they are no longer around. NGK makes the best plugs anyways. The iridiums sure make my street and diribikes run nicer. The Yammi also seems to like them. The the same dyno showed no hp increase for the iridiums. Piston engine aircraft use those same type of dual electrode plugs. Cam.

I am not really looking for a performance gain (although I would take it). I just happen to stumble across these and the price seems better than the standard ones. I was just wondering if there would be any negatives to using them.

Any one have any experience with a platinum plug for the 1800 engine I am hitting 200 hours on both of mine and I tried to find some platinum not iridium plugs but the 2 places I tried had nothing listed for that. There must be someone who has used those.

Did you ever get a response from them?

those are nickel plugs and the same heat range and throw as the stock plugs so they will work no problem, the ones I was looking for ended up not being a N G K but an Autolite double platinum fine wire plug APP5325 same cost 4.50 each. http://www.autolitecatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=A&pn=APP5325 shows the Yamaha application for pwc and boat engines on the app 5325 plug . got them at Oreilly auto parts.

Jeff,
Why the platinum plug rather than the iridium? Cam

I have used platinum plugs for many years with pretty good results so I see no reason to fix what isn't broken. This set of plugs will probably last me several years with no issues, Both my engines are sitting just under 200 hrs with the original plugs still in them . It's time for a new set, since I remove them day one and put never seize on them I don't have issues removing them. One of the 1800 engines is now just over a year old and the other is 9 or 10 months old. They get used all year long in salt water only. Zinc on the ride plates, white lithium grease on all the clamps and metal parts no problems with any of the usual corrosion , plug boots have dielectric grease in them. I did an inspection yesterday and everything looks fine, The new factory setup has the grease fitting hidden under the back electronics cover so I will do a shot of grease in the driveshaft bearings and be done for another year.

So which plug is better out of these two? I'm leaning on going towards Jeff's route of the APP5325. Just don't know if Iridium (XP5325) is better or not?
