I installed this setup a year ago. Crazy thing is I haven’t needed it since installed. I bought a Cat generator at Lowe’s on sale. Think it was 12.5k watts. Had a local retired electrician wire a 240v plug in the garage that is wired to a lockout breaker on my panel. Tested it during the summer. Ran the downstairs AC us all circuits downstairs no problem. Cheap insurance.
I do that every time we move/buy a new house.... costs about $500 Canucks $$$ to put in a transfer switch and sub panel... with the inspection. worth every penny when the neighbors come over for hot showers, coffee, a warm bite to eat. Super important if your septic system has a lift pump

I used this whale water heater to replace an 11 gallon whale water heater on my sailboat. When it’s time to take a shower, I only need to wait for 5 minutes to get warm water. That’s why I call it an instant heater! I sometimes use solar power to make it work.
