Help .. I was on my way in last weekend and my right engine shut off.
I read a few posts and tried plugging the right engine into the left ignition switch.. motor started and ran fine.. so I ordered 2 new ignition switches installed them and now same issue.. tried plugging back into left ignition and still won't start ... anyone have an idea of what I should do

Disconnect the lanyard to troubleshoot. If it works fine the lanyard is shot.

Man, that's too bad. The rear hatch switch also has the capability to cause this, but it is very rare. Normally it just does not crank with the rear switch failing.

I'm sure others will provide some suggestions.

When you say disconnected it do you mean:

1. You pulled the lanyard cord
Or
2. You disconnected the two wire harness plugs behind the switch

In case you weren’t aware, the lanyard has two circuits. One for each engine. One way to diagnose a bad lanyard switch is to unplug both connections behind the switch and swap them. If the trouble moves to the other engine, it’s a bad lanyard switch.

Another way to diagnose bad safety switches is with YDS software. Do you have access to YDS?

I actually unplugged both sets of wires from the lanyard switch and the right engine runs left one .. turns over but doesn't crank

If it turns over but doesn't fire, let's see if you have spark. There are several ways to test for spark but the easiest and most dangerous way is to pull a plug, reattach to wire, and touch ground strap to block.
Have someone else turn engine over.
If no spark, then one of the lanyard, cleanout hatch etc. Issues is to blame.
If you DO have spark then we have fuel and/or timing issues.

Since the issue "fixed" itself when you switched the ignition switches at one point...and you will need to wait for the YDS anyway....
Can you check continuity of the cables you disconnected from the lanyard?
(When the lanyard is pulled, it makes each line/cable within the single plastic connecting assembly touch each other to "short" the ignition)
there should NOT be continuity from one connection point to the other within each plug. If there is, something else is the system is bridging those two and causing the boat to "think" the lanyard is pulled...

Something to try while you wait...

Thanks you guys! That was my issue on my 2005 SX230 HO. Way cheaper than an ECU!
