I want to start with, I am new to boating and have a used boat.

I took my AR230 out on the water for the first time this weekend. The engines started but when I engaged the throttle, nothing.

The engines were showing RPM but we were not moving forward. When we pulled the boat out of the water, the throttle appeared to be working as it should. Steering was working as it should.

Suggestions on what the problem could be.

First of all, welcome to the forum and to boating! Put your cleanout plugs in, they are not installed more than likely allowing air to be introduced into the intake, and you get 100% cavitation and no thrust. If you continue to power the boat with cavitation or the cleanout plugs not installed, the engines will overheat. They draw water from the nozzle downstream of the intakes and impeller. Welcome once again!

Oh, and your cleanout plugs are in the tray on the swim deck, just open that hatch and look for them. They go into the tubes and lock in place to seal the top of the intake. They are there so you can clean out debris you might ingest while running.

Welcome Aboard!

As @txav8r said the clean out plugs (man holes in the manual) are most likely not installed. Open up the hatch on the swim deck, depress the release button with your thumb, push them down into the hole until they lock, there is a channel that you need to align at the front, then release your thumb and pull up to make sure it is locked. Repeat on the other side and you should be good to go.

These plugs are important for cleaning out debris that may get into the pumps. You will want to remove them between uses of your boat to prevent them swelling.

@Theresa Hill glad to have you on board, be sure to check out our FAQ tab at the top of the page for lots of great info for new jet boaters,
