Official Beer and Wine making Thread

Crap, I thought this forum was only going to make me spend money on the boat, now I'm going to be looking at a new setup for brewing as well! :D

Trying something new. Want to make a Pilsner soon, but for lagers I always build up a big yeast starter. So instead, I am going to brew a very simple 5 gal pale ale using lager yeast. Going to ferment the pale ale at normal ale temps. This will be basically a large yeast starter for the Pilsner. Thinking the lager yeast in the pale ale will be very similar to Cal Ale Yeast (hardly no flavor affect) and then I will have plenty of nice lager yeast for my pilsner. bought the stuff for the pale ale at lunch today, so will brew it either this weekend or next.

Talk about being spent- 95 muggy degrees here today. But only free block of time I had to brew my beer was this afternoon. Hanging around a boiling brew pot and cleaning up has wiped me out. Brewing beer is the ONLY time I like the Chicago cold months.

You guys are killing me ,I want to start brewing g beer. Everytime I read this stuff it reminds me of my comp bbq years. Then I think do I want to steep off in it? What ti e commitment for a batch. I know it's split up.
