Anybody else have chips of paint coming off their intake grates? I've owned two yamaha's and both have had some paint coming off, which doesn't hurt anything, but being a bit of a perfectionist it bothers me when i see it. Anybody fixed it themselves? If so, what kind of paint did you use?

I think it will always chip. There is too much turbulence there for it not too. I would leave it and let it turn to the raw aluminum. If it bothers you too much you could take it off and get it powder coated.

Well that explains why my last one was the same way then :). I think I'll take your advise and just not worry about it, rather than burn the money powder coating it.

Mine looks the same. Wonder if it happens in fresh water? Our salt water is what I thought was causing the problem

Mine did it before I ever put the boat in salt water for the first time, i don't think that has anything to do with it.

Salt water or fresh, it still seems like corrosion to me. I am fresh but still have it and touch up areas that bubble/flake each winter. I brush the white powder off, clean, apply an etching primer and topcoat. A few small places still show each season but much less now. Make sure the anodes on them have good contact. That might help.
