Pointers on after dark cruising please.

Wow that’s why I love this forum ! I have more ammunition then I know what to do with. I know I have to get a lot more familiar with my Navionics chart plotter app, thanks @CraigAR for the short guide. Does anyone know the laws for boating at night in north east Florida off the top of their head ? I guess I’ll have to hit the statutes (oh what fun ).

I program my app the night before and take it offshore fishing (20 miles) from land and it works perfectly.

I used navionics in bimini and had my phone in airplane mode the entire time. No problem but made sure to download the appropriate map ahead of time.

And i too was pulled over at night.
I had boat in no wake mode and was told i was below the 11 mph limit so i was good but we did the life jacket check.
I was all good but with a baby on board (jacketed) i technically had one person more than my sticker says.
She had pulled me over because my port light was out.
Replaced that week with stainless led ones.

Some very good suggestions for new boaters. IMO the biggest thing is to watch your speed. If we are going to be out at dusk or at night I would suggest a nice leisurely cruise. You don't have to be in No Wake mode, but somewhere around 12-15 mph.

Anyone have any experience with a thermal monocular? Was thinking that would be a great tool to have for night boating.
