Pump Sealant

I was under the boat looking around and looking inside the grates and noticed I have a piece of sealant kind of sticking out in the tunnel. Anyhow I want to reseal it and smooth it out. I have read people using 4200 or 5200 to seal and smooth out the tunnel.

What does everyone use? Not sure I would want to put 5200 in there in case I need to pull the pump. Is there something more optimal that isn't as permanent? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I used some Loctite brand stuff in 2018. It's still there when I checked a few weeks ago.

I used 4200. Key is to remove as much of the old sealant as you can and prep / clean the area with acetone before applying new sealant.

I used the same sealant as @2kwik4u and it is holding up great. Reduced cavitation as well. The loctite sealant can be easily found locally.

I used silicone caulk when I did mine in ~2018 and it is now all coming off again. I have a redo in progress with 4200... and the acetone cleanup as recommended.

Keep in mind, there is almost no scenario in which you would need to ever remove the parts of the tunnel that need sealing - anything forward of the transom plate, basically. I wouldn't use any permanent sealant between the transom plate/wear ring/stator segments, and the venturi, but the tunnel can be sealed with permanent sealants - all the gaps that pop up that can suck air from the bilge.

I have used 5200 there and it did not hold very well. Maybe it was the prep? I also used bondo, which was better, and most recently the Marine-Tex putty which was the best. I have the specialised bellizona-type epoxy pump kit ready, plan to use it whenever I get some time on my hands to pull the boat out.
