I am looking at a 2018 242x. One engine show 58hrs and the other 64. I've read a few threads on this and wanted to confirm as a compression test was done and all looks good, but still want to understand the discrepancy. I read that the e series when placed in single lever mode will only count the hrs for the port engine and wanted to verify that. and that there is a context upgrade to solve. if this is the case then probably a good reason for the 6 hr difference in run time. thx

That sounds like the only reasonable explanation for the difference in hours. These boats cannot be driven at anything faster than no wake with one engine.

I only used my previous boat (2017 242X) in single lever mode and my engine hours were pretty much identical when I sold it. Same thing with my current 255XD. It is only driven is single lever mode and the engine hours are identical. Unless I'm mistaken, if the engine is running, whether it's idling or running WOT, it's counting hours.
