For this winter I decided to do something different than my usual run of the mill boat modifications. I think I have focused too much on myself and my family all these years and turned a blind eye to the community at large. A few months back I started thinking of what changes in my life can I do to have maximum impact to society? I am a simple man and believe in a simple life (boats excluded, we all have our vices :) )

I have started building an open forum site for diabetics that will help educate and support people in third world countries, out of my own pocket. Why a new forum when there are so many out there in the world? The answer is short and simple, they are not built for the uneducated folks or the common man. In third world countries especially among the poor people when their kids are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes they have no idea of what to do or what exactly the disease is (yes I call it a disease as it breaks up a lot of families and destroys people). The costs for insulin alone are astronomical (almost equivalent to a months salary for a lot of people). As a result most parents forego buying insulin for their kids or give reduced insulin as per their affordability. This is double torture on them as they see their kids slowly wither away in front of their eyes and can't do anything about it. This leads to lot of long term complications with fatal results. The plight of orphans is even more tragic with most of them dying in childhood without access to insulin, or refusal for adoption due to their condition. I don't know what I can do to help in such situations. Maybe the answer will come sometime in the future. I do believe it should all start with education. This site is supposed to be a simple educational site with helpful information (with some intelligence baked in using AI and bots in the future) for the simple and uneducated folks with translation in multiple languages throughout the world. God willing I have the passion, strength and perseverance to get this site up and running and maybe find my true calling in life. Now to try and get some sleep for some heavy hitting in the morning at a customers site.Signing off.....

Sounds like a good thing you are doing! Good luck with the site and I am sure your work will make the world a better place!
