Hi all,
Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove the old sealant from around the transom nut for the steering cable?
We were finally able to knock the cable loose, but there is a good deal of old sealant that I think we have to remove before we put new sealant on right?
How much do you have to remove before you can put on new sealant around the new cable?
And is the Life Seal everyone’s recommendation for the new sealant?
Thanks!!

Maybe try a plastic putty knife. A nice new one. I’ve used a stiff plastic ruler and a sharpened piece of plexiglass also.

I use a wire brush on a cordless drill to clean sealant off of nuts and bolts. I especially do this where thread locking compounds are used. Or a small wire brush by hand. And I keep a set of picks handy to pull out little chucks.

Basically, anything that won't marr the parts.
