Hello, I just retired from the Army after 20 years and moved my family to Tampa. Looking to make boating friends and learn the area. Looking to make the Bimini run summer of 2017. I have a 20 Tahoe Q7 220 HP. Also run out to Clearwater area to Anclote key. Any in for would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

Welcome. I am a active duty Army recruiter here in Clearwater. I got a SX240 and we always out at Anclote and the Sand bar. I got a good friend up here in Tarpon Springs who is a Retired CW4 out of the Corps but i dont hold that against him.

Do you still go to Anclote at this time of year?
Damn near. If it gets above 75 or so we usually put in here near the house in Tarpon springs. Each island out there has its own personality. The sand bar where we go is just past anclote and it a good mix of people not just blue hairs and a bunch of kids.

Dang..40 Years! I thought I saw some changes after 20. I cant imagine the changes you have seen in the Army after being in for 40 years! Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome!

Congrats on you retirement, thank you for your service and welcome to the Tampa Bay Area! There are lots of fun areas to explore out here and Anclote is a favorite for us. Even if the waters are seasonably colder, the air temps have been pretty warm through December and we find the shallow areas around the key and sandbars on the lee side of the current aren't that bad. Even if u don't go in the water there's still plenty to see and do while cruising around. I posted a vid of the dolphins on the north end of the key on one of my threads and several others have posted similar vids as well, it's a great place for a family to boat! Hope to see you out there :winkingthumbsup"

Yep, not EVEN the same Army as it was in 1971 when I was commissioned. Some of that is quite good....but some would have been better left alone!

Congratulations on your retirement and welcome to the area. We moved to the area in June 2016. We have explored the area from Egmont Key to Anclote Key. They all are great places. Have fun exploring.
