Rev limiter <on Regal Rush 90hp>

I'm told that the mags are for charging the batter, really wouldn't have anything to do with my lack of throttle

You are right and wrong. There are two sets of coils. One set generates the current to charge the battery and another group of 3 - 4 coils build high voltage ~ 180 vac - to charge the capacitors in the capacitor discharge ignition or CDI. These must be working and need all of the magnets and a good magnetic circuit to generate that high voltage.
My experience is that once one comes loose the rest are not far behind.

Hum, would you think the mags are the same?

The flywheel is the same except for the new style inner (trigger) magnet arrangement and the larger bore taper in the hub.
The id of the outer magnets is the same. s-l1600.jpg

I can't use it and I will sell it to you for what I paid $100 + shipping.
Otherwise I will just resell it on eBay where I bought it.
You can probably find a Force flywheel somewhere near you, perhaps for less.
How many magnets do you need? one or two?

Really need one, but would prefer two, do you have some you could sell me?

I have one left in another old flywheel that matches the engine, but I prefer to keep it. Somewhere I think I have another six, but I haven't been able to find them.
I suggest you look for a local source of old Force outboards as they were the low cost motor of the 90s and there are a lot of them unloved almost everywhere there are boats.
I do have the incorrect flywheel I bought, but the best thing for me to do is relist it on Ebay and sell it to someone who needs one for their outboard to keep it running.
Evidently there was a change when the Force was updated to the CDM system and the new style flywheels are not compatible with the earlier CDI engines.
If you want it I will sell it to you, but the best bet is to search the junkyards.

I've been checking everywhere, no one seems to have the mags or even the flywheel, if you can help me out thatnwould be great, I hear it's very difficult to detatch them without damage so buying your flywheel would be the best, I'd you would likebto part with the magnets if you find that would really get me going. Thanks for your time

Where do you live? There are lots of these things around.
There are a lot of these around that have sat out in the weather or unprotected and a bloom of rust works it's way under the magnets and the layer of glue separates and the magnets come loose.
The more modern flywheel I have used a different bonding, I think. I think that these are heat bonded and may be hard to remove and it would probably be best for me to sell these to someone who needs a whole flywheel.
I bought an old, unloved 1993? Regal Rush for parts since spares can be hard to find. If I had not done that I would not have magnets myself! Unfortunately the splines in the crankshaft are different from the 1995 I have which I discovered after I built it up to replace the one in the Hobie. I ended up swapping the cranks in the rebuilt engine as the block was in sorry shape in the exhaust box with stripped and cracked threads.
Old Sport Jets are for sale from $200 - 500 with trailers. The problem is getting rid of the old hull after you have taken the parts you want.
Good luck with your search. If you want to try to remove the magnets from the 1997 flywheel let me know.

Sometimes the answer is to search for a few part numbers. Crowley Marine and others have illustrated parts list to help get numbers to look for.

Be careful as many of the flywheels I see pictures of on ebay have already shed their magnets.

I found my "extra" and now lost magnets looking at a scrapped Force 120 late model outboard on Craigslist that cost me $0.00.

If you are going to be serious about operating the old sport jet over time (long or short) you need to collect critical spare parts.

Hi - New to the forum and just brought a 95 Sportjet 90 Jetboat Thundercraft Typhoon- has the same exact problem of starting up but somewhere through halfway the throttle cuts off. Cleaned the 3 carbs- put new priming pump, cleaned the strainer - still doing the same. Then found the regulator wires were burned - any advice appreciated !

Wondering if your problem was solved after the flywheel change- I have the same boat and problem too
