So I have a friend who has a 2017 Yamaha VX Waverunner. He sucked up a rope instead of calling and asking somebody what he should do he removed the ride plate to get it now when he tried to put the ride plate back on one of the bolts will only go two turns then stops and won't go any further. I'm going to swing by tomorrow and take a look but any of you guys got any ideas on what's going on there or what will need to be done?

It is possible that the bolt or threads are cross threaded. Hopefully that is not the case. Sometimes excess thread sealant can prevent the bolt from starting too.

I wasn't there when they took it off but I'm sure the possibility of it being cross threaded is there. I'm hoping more along the line there is sealant or an obstruction in there we can get out. Other then that it may need to be re threaded if there isn't.

Bring your tap and die set if you have one.

Also make sure the other installed bolts aren't tight. There's enough wiggle room that a single hole could just not be lined up perfectly. Start every bolt by hand, then commence to torquing. Good practice for any/everything, certainly not ride plate specific.

I did and it was needed. The ski was bought new last spring not sure if they stripped it or it came from the factory like that but it was stripped good. retapped it and put the plate back on and all is well thanks guys.

I have a Sport Jet and the screws that hold the intake grate on are more or less permanently fused into the pump hpusing.
My guess is that when the hammer/loosener is through there will be cursing, weeping wailing, and gnashing of teeth and drilling and tapping involved.
