Saltwater use

hey all
I am a first time owner and have a few questions.
I dont just want to take the salesman's word on this one.
I live in Ohio so the majority of my boating will be either on the river or a few nearby lakes.
However my in laws have a place in Florida I am wondering what I should need to do when switching back and forth between saltwater and freshwater usage.

Just flush the engines after using in saltwater and make sure you wash her down good. Depending on how long you will be using the boat in saltwater, you may want to change the anodes.

If your trailer is not aluminum or galvanized, make sure you wash it real good with fresh water, I have seen what salt water does to painted trailers in a few months and is not pretty.
You should buy some saltwater and use to flush the engine and when you wash your trailer.
Other then that you should be fine.

I believe he meant to write saltaway.

Our boats handle salt water well. Painted trailers do not. Hopefully you have a galvanized trailer. If not I suggest finding one or an aluminum trailer.

Need to use soap or salt terminator everytime it comes out of the water.

Get the Salt Away kit. That's what I use. I also use it to wash down the trailer (ours is galvanized). Cheap and works great.

+1 on Salt-Away! It's great stuff and the applicator tank also doubles as a nice on/off valve for when you want to run your boat on water if working on the boat like when you change your oil. No more having to run back and forth to the water valve at the house. I use that adapter far more than I thought I ever would even when not using Salt-Away.

As mentioned you will want either a galvanized or aluminum trailer if you ever think you'll use your boat in salt. When I clean my boat after salt use I'll use one full tank of Salt-Away when flushing and then I'll fill the tank again and use it to fully soak the boat and trailer in Salt-Away. It does a great job of removing all the stubborn salt crystals.
