so I have a 165 150hp with 5 hrs on it. I've been through more than I should have. Got in a fight with an oyster reef that did some damage. The good news is that since I have no dealer close to me, I've had to be resourceful. All motor/drivetrain components are all seadoo parts. If u pull the parts, they even start with 267xxxxxx (brp part numbers). Not surprising given the speedster similarities. So look online for late model speedster parts and forget the dealer parts.

After the oyster incident, I had to replace the wear ring. I even replaced the impeller with a high performance solas 11/19 (hole shot is awesome).

My problem is I really feel I'm not getting the performance I should. The max I can get is 39mph at 6500rpm. The rpm seems low (maybe the impeller).

It wouldn't bother me if they published a top speed for this boat, but I can't find it. What I do know is all the speedsters with our engine were at about 50mph. Boat runs great, no cavitation, but I just can't get it to go even close to what the speedsters are getting, but when the scarab 165 HO is getting 51mph with 100 ext hp, 39mph seems reasonable.

Long story short: what performance should I expect from this boat?

Thanks!

What can't speak can't lie, but that's awrful, maybe the speed sensor is faulty?

What? Those are horrible top speeds for both boats unless they were taken at altitude, like a mile up.

I had a 175 hp Mercury powered jet pushing a hull similar to the 15 / 16 foot seadoo speedster at well over 50 mph and it got there fast as a two stroke id expect the same or better performance for you newer boats. Have you tried looking in boat test . Com for a video review?

That's my problem. I'm having a difficult time finding any real world specs on the boat. Every review is on impulse or HO with the supercharger 250 hp. Can't find much for the base 150 hp

You wont get top rpm'a until you pass over 8hrs of the break in, then you should be seeing 7900+ rpm's will get you more mph. The scarab 165 are heavier than the speedster 150 and are a much smoother of a ride with my experience. You can do some modifications to get more mph but I won't dabble with that for a few yrs.

My good friend has a 2012 speedster 15o sea-doo and only gets 37-39 mph. The supercharged rotax will get you 50-55 mph on the sea-doo and scarab jet boats.

That's another confusing part. I was told that the boat is electronically limited until 8rs. But the manual states that it is only true for the supercharged motor, not the base model. The base has a rev limiter max rpm of 7300 while the supercharged model Max's at 8000 and is electronically limited for the first 8 hrs. I'm finding my dealer to be really uninformed about these boats.

Post some pics of your Scarab, bet it looks awesome. They are bad ass looking boats! you can find a rotax dealer/mechanic and they can offer some modification tips to get yours upwards of 45mph, like: fuel injectors, ecu upgrades, impeller, etc. ScarabMike had some advice and didn't get back to me when I asked him if he knew of anyone that successfully upgraded their ECU to get more rpm/mph upwards of 50hp.
Give ScarabMike a shout.

Thanks! I'll get some pics up soon. The more I think about it I really think it may be the Solas prop. It's steeper than stock, so my hole shot is great, but it's dropping my rpms on the top end. Out of the water, it revs to the limiter, so I'm assuming it is load related.

Looks like your top speed is consistent with what the scarab specs are for the 150hp motor, 38-41mph. Although your max RPM seems low. Which is not electronically limited on the NA engine during break in. The Scarab UK site has most of the information and specs published for our boats. Not sure why the US site is so bad and missing all of this info. See below.

That site is very nicely done, VERY INFORMATIVE .Why does the U.S site lack so much detail! Scarab can't even get on the same page with each other.

Wow. Thank you so much. That really helps. The low wot rpm im sure is from the steeper pitch of the Solas impeller. It rips out of the hole, but I'm not sure wether it's lugging the motor or not at wot
