Sea Rayder 175 xr2 jet pump help please

Hi all,

Working on a 1997 sea rayder with the merc 175 xr2 jet drive.

I have no propulsion and I can spin the lower drive shaft by hand. Am I right to assume a drive shaft is broken or a gear stripped? It was running about 50 mph, lost power and engine revved sky high. The engine still runs fine.

Also, will I be able to pull the jet pump assembly while on the trailer? There's only a few inches for it to drop down. Anything else I should look for?

Looks like you have one hell of a project.Does the shaft turn free or just the impeller? Looking at the manual I think you need to pull the powerhead to access that part of the drive http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercury/manuals/175xr_sportjet.html#/0 Bye the way welcome to the best forum around

The shaft turns free by hand. The impeller splines are ok and its still firmly attached. So the problem seems to be farther up.
