Shorelander trailer lights

I replaced my shorelander bulb lights ($56k boat comes with bulbs, wtf Yamaha), with shorelander LED's - plug and play. First time I launched I unplugged out of habit, but haven't since, and everything works great. That's about 50 launches and recoveries ago.

I had read that it is recommended that when backing your trailer into the water you should disconnect the electric plug from your truck. I've been doing this, but is it really necessary?
Electric will follow the path of least resistance which means the wires not the water will carry the current. 12v is far different than the stuff for plugging in yachts etc.

That holds true as long as the wiring is good on both the trailer and tow vehicle. I've been an advocate of unplugging the trailer for years just to ensure my tow vehicle doesn't get zapped. When backing up, I use a magnetic surge lockout key and it works great to disable the brakes.

I replaced my lights with L.E.D.'s and the driver side brake and signal on the new L.E.D. tail light is not working. I noticed signs of corrosion everywhere. I tried spraying electric cleaner on everything to no avail. I really hope I don't have to replace the wiring. I think unplugging the lights is probably the best way to go.
