Smith Mountain Lake in VA

Anyone ever been up to Smith Mountain Lake. Renting a cabin with a boat slip at the State Park for Memorial weekend. Was hoping someone can give me some info of some good boating spots there. Thanks in advance

We have been a few times but we have stay at http://westlake-waterfront-inn.com very basic accommodations but if you're spending all day on the water who cares. Huge lake.. We never did really find any beaches to hang out at..

Looking that Google maps it looks to have a lot of coves to anchor out at. Is that what you ended up doing?

Yeah we pretty much just moved Cove to Cove as beach seems to be in short supply.. Or we just never found it. Awesome lake though. We always have a great time.

My boat came from there. Wish I could tap into the boats brain to find out where it went all those years since I have never been there.

SML is awesome, deep water lake - you will love it. Water will be cool - but refreshing. Fun things to do:
Bridgewater Plaza - good pizza place, ice cream - and of course feeding popcorn to the giant carp
Beaches - lots of red clay, so you can stain the interior of a boat - just south of the Dam there are some beachy areas basically at the foot of those mountains. Water gets deep fast.
Cliffs - in the Blackwater Channel part of the lake there is a place called the Cliffs where people go to jump (and watch). There is a 6 foot rock to jump off, there are 20 foot jumps and then 35 (or so) place to jump (but it's hard to get over to that area).
There are also some islands that you can explore. Have fun!

Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like I need to learn how to use my Lowrance so I can navigate around the lake. Definitely want to check out the Cliffs.
