Sony Marine Mobile Commander Remote - Not working

My remote key pad for my Sony stereo started to work intermittently. The volume on the radio would not work and at first I thought it was the head unit but after disconnecting the remote, the radio works fine.

Has anyone had similar issues with the keys on the remote pad not working and locking up the head unit?

It looks like I may have to replace it or keep it disconnected so I thought I would also see if anyone has had any other experiences.

I can't speak to Sony specifically but the h20 audio oem and JBl audio system in my yamahas had and have the same remote issues you are experiencing. I couldn't / can't fix the remotes so they needed to be replaced or just disconnected as you mentioned earlier. On the bright side it's an opportunity to upgrade to a wired unit with full head unit functionality and/ or a display. If such a upgrade is available, all of the remotes I've seem so far are proprietary/ brand specific.
