You are going to have difficulty putting speakers on the swim platform unless you are comfortable modifying the side seat back cushions.

The 242's cushions are different than the 240's, specifically cut to fit the speakers.

I would REALLY like to put speakers on the back of my boat. I don't need to hear them when wakeboarding or skiing. I need to hear them when we are chilling in the water at the back of the boat with a beverage.

Looking to what @Kennc said above... Has anyone tried replacing the 240 cushions with 242 cushions and then adding a speaker there? Otherwise, I am tempted to cut the cushion (as I saw someone do on here--don't remember who just now, but it was an awesome job, but gutsy).

Other ideas?

Seeing as you have an AR, why not just mount a nice set of tower speakers?

Primarily, cost. Them suckers are pricey!

Plus I don't know that it will really fit the bill. I mean, yes, then I could hear off the back of the boat. But I could also blast the neighbors into next week. Not really my goal...

I don't know how different your seats are from mine, but I added speakers that are mounted behind the seats. I installed them through the engine hatch and the sound carries through the bottom of the seat and I have great sound out the back of the boat. I also added an amp which drives all the speakers and I adjust using the fad on the radio head. Works for me anyway. Here is the link to what mine looks like.

I wanted the same and went with non horn tower speakers. Seat back speakers can be inadvertently blocked. Get a set of tower speakers with nice speakers and you will be happy. H2o warehouse has decent enclosures and speakers for this.

You don't have to go with a pricey WetSounds, Exile, JL, etc set up. There are various less costly options to go with - like the Rockford Fosgate 8" coax (282 Wake). They will project directly to the back nicely, or rock out the cove - all depending on how much you turn up the dial.
By the time you consider buying 242 cushions, or have an upholstery shop modify your cushions, I'm sure the costs would be very similiar.

@Jim Robeson , yes I was thinking of this. In fact, thinking of trying it with the old speakers that I have from the cabin (the stock ones). But I am concerned about the loss of high range. I know I will get probably mid and definitely low just fine with that setup. Do you lose the highs?

@octavio3311 and @jawsf16 , wow, that seems to construct a much more cost effective solution than I was thinking it would be. Still a little more than putting $70/pr speakers on the back, but... Wondering what @David Analog 's opinion is of your solution? Always impressed by his comments...

Thanks, all!

You're asking the wrong guy about that. All I can tell you is that the sound that comes out is very clear and isn't distorted.
