Dang. That didn't take long. Vertical at about the passenger seat area of the boat. :(

Is this just what I'm going to have to live with owning a Yamaha? I've barely had the boat a month, haven't kissed it off the dock or anything abnormal. Not a mark on the boat anywhere. Should I contact the dealer or Yamaha? I'm pretty bummed.

I realize that you probably can't tell much from the picture, but it's 3 or 4 lines about 8 or so inches long.

I can't see the spider cracks in the picture. But I would be talking to the dealer about repairing them over the winter. I would want to get a written agreement to repair those plus any new spider cracks over the winter rather than loosing time during boating season.

Yea I'd be back at the dealer too and calling yamaha. Not acceptable.

Roger that. I'll give them a call tomorrow. :thumbsup:

I had a couple like that, but in the back near the swim platform. Dealer had me run out the season to see if any others appeared. None did. Dealer sent to their fiberglass guy & repaired under warranty no questions asked. No further problems since.

I've noticed that with these boats tall freeboard the sides are not well reinforced which makes cracking easy from even a light impact with a dock or other things. The sides of this boat are much more flimsy than my last boat, and pretty similar to my Bayliner (as much as I hate to admit it). At this point I am not as impressed with Yamaha "quality" as I was 4 months ago. All that said I have cracks that will also need to be repaired at the end of the season.

Update:

The dealership wanted some pictures to contact Yamaha with. I asked about running the summer first but they seemed to think getting it fixed sooner would be better. It's not under the center cleat where a fender could push against the side, plus I'm good at gentle docking with the boat, so this didn't happen at the dock.

Updated pics with electrical tape outlining the cracks.

Found another spot with gelcoat cracks. In the transition area of the rear storage area into the sides of the liner.

I had the same issue in my 14 Ar240 and I'm without my boat at this very moment. No damage by me either as this is not my first jet boat. I hope your local dealers glass guy is better than mine is. I've been without my boat for 2 months now because they can't blend the space blue color very well and I'm settling for just any repair. Not sure if it's a FL work quality thing or what but I almost wished I left the spider crack in the side. Yamaha had then authorized me to take it to a different repair facility and now this person has not been able to get the job done either.

Oh yeah.... I forgot to mention that while my daughter was sitting in the passenger seat holding onto the grab handle that's built into the gray side panel it ripped out. (Whole panel, not just handle). She's only 9 and weighs maybe 50-60 pounds. This I took serious as she flew across the boat and into my lap. They can't get this panel to sit flush now again and they expect me to settle for a 1 1/2 inch gap filled with caulk. Not too happy at this moment. Not to mention I've been paying payments and insurance for 2 months now and haven't had my boat. Yamaha has been responding customer service wise, but I'm not sure this is going to work out in the end.

Sorry for the rant!! Just a little upset and this seems to be par for the coarse with these softly made boats.

@Lou4

Did they determine that the underlying glass on the side of the hull was not damaged? I guess my concern at this time is that the boat oil cans pretty bad on the port side and although I don't beat my vehicles, it is a boat and there's always that chance that you pound on the backside of someone's wake or a wave. Was your cracking vertical and curved about midway in the boat?

At first the dealer and their glass guy tried telling me it happened because something hit it from the inside. I started laughing at them because do they not even know that's impossible to happen from inside the cockpit as there is an inner wall as well. It's two different molds per say. They said oh yeah that's not possible. Mine looked exactly like yours did. I don't abuse my boat either but of coarse I cross boat wakes and hit swells in the gulf. That's just part of boating! I had a Sea Doo Challenger 210 before this 240 and the hull it self was a lot stronger material. The ride however was unpleasant due to it being so bull nosed. And these yami motors are pretty bullet proof so I thought it was a no brainer to upgrade but I'm having second thoughts as far as the structural integrity of these boats. Don't get me wrong I love this 240. I just hope the issue isn't bigger than I'm thinking because it seems this is a frequent problem with the yamis. As for the side panel I truly am scared to have any passengers hold onto that handle if it's ever repaired. Who's to say it won't rip out again!!
