Hi,
Does anyone out there know where I can get a replacement MR1 engine for a 2004 sr230? mine has just blown a hole in the side of the engine. I think a big end let go.

@27wayne123 sorry to hear about your issues. That's terrible. Like @Bruce stated, I've seen SBT advertise on eBay too. Maybe compare prices that way.

Ps. It's pretty easy to pull an engine on our boats If you're capable of turning a wrench or two. So you could save a lot of $ on labor if you have the time and a few tools.

Sbt requires an exchange. I wouldn't think an engine with a hole in the side is exceptable. I hope someone will correct me. If you do go this route make sure you know what to take off bc i sent them the jet pump off my ski to be reconditioned and they took all the parts that were bolted to it and threw them in the trash. Some of the parts were back ordered. Pissed me off. Who throws away perfectly good parts?

It would be helpful to know why your old motor blew up. These older motors have had a lot of issues from bad ECU's that are fried in the fuel injector circuits. This allows gas to dump into a cylinder and flood the oil with gas and eventually the motor can seize from no lubrication. So, it's possible you'll need a new ECU as well as a motor.

And...... Welcome aboard! Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Ok. thanks guys, I am new to all this, although I'm ok with wrenches etc. the post about the fuel injector circuit failure is a bit frightening though.. I suppose I need to plug in some software and read the codes before pulling the engine out and contacting sbt.

I have kept a list of names through the years but can't speak to their work and some may only be 2 stroke. You will want to figure out the cause first. I suspect some replace engines without fully identifying the cause resulting in another blown engine. I would personally call SBT and ask to talk to a technician. I have done this and you can make your mind up whether they can be of help or not.

Here is my list in no particular order
- WFOperformance
- FullBore (2 stroke only?)
- SBT
- JetekPerformance

Thanks for that, I recently bought the boat, found out it had been stood for 4 years which cant help I guess, I am based in Ireland and there are not too many of these boats around.

I'd be looking for an early fx waverunner, 'o2 to '05, I think with the same 998 cc , 140 hp, motor, Ecu, rectifier, injectors, etc. they go for anywhere from $2,500 to $4,000 used here in NCal. Not cheap but a lot cheaper than new. If you go with sbt consider the extended warranty (2 years v 1). When I last worked with them they required a core exchange for the heads and block, if yours is repaired or can be they will take it but call to be sure. Shipping is expensive here in the states so I assume it will be worse to Ireland. Good luck.
