My 2013 242 Limited S has been sitting for 8-weeks (life events curtailed much of my summer boating) and tried to start the boat yesterday. Port engine starts fine, but Starboard just a faint click. I get a "low voltage" error/display from the tach when trying to start the Starboard engine.
At the ramp, I quickly read some of the JB "related" posts (solenoid, starter, crank, etc.) and messed around yesterday with items that are at my skill level including; cursing, dropping sockets into the engine bay and wishing my hands and body were 1/2 their size and more closely matched the anatomy of the designers of this boat. I did not have enough daylight or the proper tools to get deep enough into this yesterday.
Last night I regrouped and read the JB forum posts more thoroughly and used google to explain to me what a solenoid is and what the purpose of "ground" is. I bought a multi-meter at Walmart ... I've watched a few YouTubes. I am headed back to the boat in 30 minutes with my new found knowledge, more tools, service manual and some better lighting.
I believe yesterday's tweaking has ruled out:
-the clean-out hatch switch (I think)
-the lanyard cut-off switch
-any loose connections at the battery itself
-fuse issues for the fusebox located on the transom wall
I am working w/in a very limited electrical and mechanical skillset but going to give the following a whirl this AM:
-switch the STBD and PORT ignition
-switch the CLEAN OUT switches
-wiggle wires and drop tools
-more cursing
-trace voltage per the education provided on the many related JB posts
Subscribe or PM me if you'd like a Saturday morning diversion. I am assuming that you boat maintenance whisperers in the midwest, northwest and northeast have had your boats put away now and are itching for an interesting challenge ...
