2018 sx195 the supercharged 1.8
200 hours
Starter will spin but the engine does not spin at all.
The starter is spinning freely.
I replaced the starter,
cleaned electrical contacts..
Checked safety switches.
Changed oil and plugs after it was towed for 3 hours off the water.
New battery

I did notice the gear the starter mates with is able to free spin both ways if that matters. The starter is good I replaced it on the advice it was the starter. The starter doesn't seem to use a bendix system.
Part number 5 in the link below spins freely which is why I think it sounds like the starter is spinning freely

So is parts number 1 a potential issue?

I've had a tooth or two strip on a cars flywheel before. Can you turn the engine by hand from the front with a breaker bar or large ratchet? If you can, spin the engine a bit and try again. If you have a missing tooth on the flywheel this will move the engine past that point and allow the starter to engage.

No idea if this will work on a Yamaha engine, but might be worth a try.

Yeah thats a thought but it's a task to turn the engine over and from the info I'm gathering they have kinda a starter clutch ...I just did the supercharger clutch... super annoying just under 200hrs ...seems like this clutch opened that last time I started it and when I shut it off that was its still in like neutral

The bendix drive on the starter may not be kicking out all the way. Pull it out and put 12 volts to it and see if the gear is going to the end.

My understanding the newer boats don't have a bendix ... but a starter clutch with a fixed gear on the starter ... I replaced the old starter with no change

Where any of the teeth missing on the old SC clutch?

The diagram says that is a one-way part... if it spins both ways probably not a good sign.
